23.10.2015: Autumn trip with DFB steam train Andermatt–Disentis
After many years of efforts, it was finally possible to organize a steam train trip to the Oberalppass. An English tour operator ordered a special train at the DFB from Realp via Andermatt and Sedrun to Disentis / Mustér (and back) for the 23rd. October 2015. To the great joy of all involved, it was beautiful autumn weather, which allowed to shoot nice photos and film recordings. In this adventure tour, which was organized jointly with the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway (MGB), the DFB's officials and volunteers demonstrated that they can carry out commercial trips safely and without disturbance outside the Furka mountain line. A great thank you to the management of the MGB that it gave its OK for this steam ride. It has been more than 30 years since the last time a train with a coal-fired locomotive run between Andermatt and Disentis / Mustér. Without the support of a large number of DFB volunteers, such an unforgettable special trip would never have become reality.
The trip started at 10:00 am in Realp and led first to Andermatt. Then the locomotive HG 3/4 No. 4 with its three blue nostalgic coaches climbed up to the Nätschen station . Running along the Oberalp lake, the train reached the highest MGB station Oberalppass (2033 meters above sea level).
Now in the canton of Graubünden, the descent to Sedrun and Disentis / Mustér began . Beautiful photos jets were possible at the stone viaducts Dieni, Bugnei and Acletta. The locomotive then went to Sumvitg-Cumpadials, where the Rhetic railway (RhB) built a turntable for steam locomotives.
The return trip to Andermatt and Realp made the landscape even more magical with gold-colored forests and the already snowed mountain peaks. At last sunbeams the train reached Andermatt. Shortly after 6:00 pm the train arrived again Realp, where all guests and staff left the train very happy. It was agreed that this adventure trip should be repeated in the future. Many Thanks!
